Prof. Kathryn McMahon

Kathryn is a Co-founder of the Seagrass Heatwave Collective. Kathryn is internationally recognised for her expertise in seagrass ecosystems, working collaboratively with First Nations People, community, government and industry to generate knowledge for policy, management, conservation and climate actions.

Nicole Said

Nicole is a Co-founder of the Seagrass Heatwave Collective and a marine ecologist focusing on human impacts to seagrasses particularly from ocean warming and costal development. Her most recent work focuses on using thermal thresholds to predict marine heatwave impacts on seagrasses, and developing proactive restoration strategies to build climate-adaptive meadows.

Dr. Simone Strydom

Simone is a Co-founder of the Seagrass Heatwave Collective and a leading seagrass ecologist dedicated to advancing science that underpins effective management that supports the conservation of seagrass meadows globally. Her research focuses on the impacts of marine heatwaves and dredging on seagrasses and is driven by a commitment to safeguard resilient meadows in a changing climate.

Dr. Marlene Wesselmann

Marlene is a Co-founder of the Seagrass Heatwave Collective and her research focuses mainly on understanding how global change affects coastal ecosystems dominated by macrophytes, such as seagrass meadows. Her work spans from individuals to communities using integrative approaches combining field surveys, mesocosm experiments, molecular tools and modelling to advance ecological understanding and support science-based management and improve the conservation of marine coastal ecosystems.

Alex works for Environs Kimberley, as the coordinator of the Broome Community Seagrass Monitoring Project.
Through collaboration with Yawuru rangers, Seagrass-Watch and dedicated citizen scientists, this project has monitored the health of seagrass meadows in Roebuck Bay since 2006, offering crucial long-term data to seagrass in the Kimberley region.
